The Little Island
By Golden MacDonald (Margaret Wise Brown)
Illustrated by Leonard Weisgard
Summary: The Little Island is about a little island in the ocean. The island changes throughout the days, nights, and seasons. Even the different animals play a part in the changing island. A little kitten comes to the island with some people on a picnic. The kitten realizes he is little just like the island. The kitten talks about how he is a part of a big world. A fish wants the kitten to go with him into the sea, but the kitten can’t swim. The island tells him he needs to have faith about what he doesn’t know. The fish tells the kitten how all land is one land under the sea. The kitten gets back on his boat and sails away into the setting sun. Night comes to the little island as well as a big storm. Several seasons pass by and after days, nights, seasons, and weather, the little island remained a part of the world surrounded by the bright blue sea.
